Your Store is Bleeding Money

(here's how to fix it)

Hey Michael from AdSumo Digital here.

Listen...

Something happened last week that made me spit out my coffee.

I was digging through one of our client's analytics (as one does at 11pm on a Tuesday), when I noticed they were losing 70% of their front end sales to cart abandonment.

But here's the crazy part - this wasn't just them being "bad at ecommerce."

Every single store I look at has this same problem. Most are losing 7 out of 10 potential customers at checkout.

And you know what? I LOVE seeing numbers like this.

Why?

Because it means there's a mountain of cash just sitting there waiting to be scooped up. It's like finding a bag of money in your backyard that you didn't know was there.

Last month alone, we helped one of our clients recover $32,813.50 in sales that would have otherwise vanished into the digital ether.

All from implementing one simple email sequence.

(I'll show you exactly what we did in a second...)

The best part? This isn't some complicated tech nightmare that requires an engineering degree and 17 apps to set up.

Today I'm going to show you:

  • The REAL reasons people bail at checkout (spoiler: it's not what most "gurus" tell you)

  • Our exact "found money" sequence that recovers these lost sales on autopilot

  • The sneaky split-test trick that doubled our recovery rate

  • The social proof secret that makes hesitant buyers throw their credit cards at you

Why People REALLY Abandon Their Carts

Here's something most "experts" get wrong about cart abandonment:

Just because someone bounces from your checkout doesn't mean they don't want your stuff.

True story: Last week I was buying my brother a gift when our contractor started jackhammering through our bathroom wall. The vibrations knocked over a glass, it shattered everywhere, and guess what?

That purchase never happened. Not because I didn't want it. Not because the price was wrong. But because life got in the way.

Here's what ACTUALLY causes cart abandonment:

  1. Life interrupts (phone rings, kid screams, boss walks by)

  2. Tech fails (payment declines, site crashes, WiFi dies)

  3. Comparison shopping ("let me check one more store...")

  4. Lingering questions ("will this actually work for me?")

  5. Analysis paralysis ("which version should I get?")

The good news? These are all recoverable sales. You just need the right system.

The "Found Money" Sequence That's Crushing It Right Now

Let me show you what's converting like crazy for our clients.

First, here's what NOT to do:

Don't send some boring "You left something in your cart!" email that looks like it was generated by robots in 2005.

Instead, here's the 3-email sequence that's printing money:

Email #1 (Send 2-4 hours after abandonment): Make it personal. Make it feel like a real human noticed they were shopping. For example...

"Hey [name],

I noticed you were checking out our [product] earlier but didn't complete your order. Everything ok? Hit reply if you have any questions - I'm here to help!

-[real person's name]"

Simple right? That's the point. It looks like a real email from a real person who actually gives a damn.

Email #2 (24 hours later): This is where we handle objections and showcase social proof. We'll often include:

  • Our best customer review

  • Press mentions

  • Answer top questions

  • Remind them about free shipping/returns

Email #3 (24 hours after that): Final reminder with a dash of urgency. Maybe throw in a one-time discount if it makes sense for your margins.

The Secret Sauce: Strategic Splits

Here's where things get interesting...

We split these flows based on:

  • Cart value (high-ticket needs more trust building)

  • Previous purchase history (existing customers convert differently)

  • Product type (consumables vs. one-time purchases)

One client saw their recovery rate jump 47% just by implementing these splits.

Want proof? Here are the actual numbers from a recent client:

Before splits: 12% recovery rate
After splits: 17.6% recovery rate
Extra monthly revenue: $27,412

Not bad for a few hours of work setting this up, right?

Look, at the end of the day, this isn't rocket science. It's about showing up at the right time, with the right message, in a way that feels human.

Your customers are busy. They get distracted. Sometimes they just need a gentle nudge to cross the finish line.

This sequence does exactly that - and it works while you sleep.

Set this up once and it'll keep printing money for you month after month.

Now go rescue some of that revenue that's slipping through your fingers!

P.S. Got questions about implementing this in your store? Just hit reply - I read every email.

P.P.S. One more thing... running this sequence through Black Friday/Cyber Monday is pure gold. Last year we recovered an extra $43k for a client during BFCM alone. Just something to think about as Q4 approaches...If you run an Ecom brand and want to have a 15 minute strategy session with me, book a call here »
